BCM & BCB STAFF UNION

NEWSLETTER: October 2025

Welcome to the monthly BCB & BCM Staff Union newsletter! Tune in here every month to get caught up on organizing news and progress.

NEWS:

  • LAYOFF AFTERMATH: Want a quick way to give a boost to your laid off colleagues? Find them on Linkedin and write them a reference or endorse their skills! Check out the list of folks here.
  • WIFI DOWN, CONTRACTS LOST, UNMANAGEABLE WORKLOADS: Many of us are already feeling the weight of the layoffs. A 3% cost of living increase does not keep up with the Boston-area inflation rate of 3.2% and will never catch up with the inflation jump since 2022. We need fair and transparent wages now.
  • UNION CONTRACTS: Negotiations for Faculty Union Contracts have wrapped, which triggered our staff 3% cost of living increase. Studio Ops IBEW 2222 gets the bait and switch: after negotiating their own 3% wage increase, assuming the 3% wasn’t happening for the rest of the college, IBEW 2222 learned that Berklee gave the increase to everyone and had planned to all along.
  • NOW IS THE TIME: Our organizing team is gearing up for a mass amount of movement in the next month. If you’re supportive of the union and want to get involved, we need you and your knowledge! This is a grassroots movement and every employee holds a piece of the puzzle.
  • NEXT MEETINGS:
    • Sunday, 11/2, 11am-1pm – Planning Meeting – Somerville. Email for the address.
    • Thursday,11/6  6-7pm – Open meeting, near campus. Email for address.
    • We need you and we need your network! Come fight with us to protect staff at Berklee and the Boston Conservatory! Want the location? Send us an email: staffunionbcmbcb@gmail.com

Who we are: The BCM and BCB staff union has partnered with the AFT (American Federation of Teachers) to build a coalition, with additional support from the Berklee Faculty Union, and Studio Operations (represented by IBEW2222). In 2025 leadership began outlining the demands of the staff union based on feedback from our workplace issue form. Want to see these demands, add your own, and help improve working conditions at Berklee and Boston Conservatory? Contact us and join our team by emailing: staffunionbcmbcb@gmail.com.
