Welcome to the monthly BCB & BCM Staff Union newsletter! Tune in here every month to get caught up on organizing news and progress.
NEWS:
- PETITION DELIVERED: After several attempts to deliver the Petition to Protect Berklee Community from the Federal Attacks on Free Expression (which garnered over 100 signatures) to the president, a group of 8 people were able to deliver the petition to Eileen Alviti, Senior VP of HR. See notes here of that meeting.

- MAJOR LAYOFF: On Thursday and Friday of last week, 70 of our colleagues were laid off. We have started a spreadsheet to crowdsource the list of folks who were laid off. Please add any information you can via comment in an empty cell.
- UNION MEMBERS DIDN’T GET LAID OFF! Faculty (Represented by AFT) and Studio Ops Staff (proud union members of IBEW 2222) were spared from layoffs that hit nearly every other department.
- STUDENTS WALK OUT! Monday morning (9/29) students are walking out in protest! 9am in front of 8 Fenway.
- UNION CONTRACTS DRAGGING: Negotiations for Faculty Union Contracts are due Nov 3rd, continuing to drag. Studio Ops IBEW 2222 is continuing to be strung along by Berklee Administration refusing to come to the table with a reasonable and fair offer.
- NEXT MEETINGS: This Wednesday 6-8p, and Sunday, 11am. We need you and we need your network! Come fight with us to protect staff at Berklee and the Boston Conservatory! Want the location? Send us an email! staffunionbcmbcb@gmail.com
Who we are: The BCM and BCB staff union has partnered with the AFT (American Federation of Teachers) to build a coalition, with additional support from the Berklee Faculty Union, and Studio Operations (represented by IBEW2222). In 2025 leadership began outlining the demands of the staff union based on feedback from our workplace issue form. Want to see these demands, add your own, and help improve working conditions at Berklee and Boston Conservatory? Contact us and join our team by emailing: staffunionbcmbcb@gmail.com.
